The instructor gets out, and Melvyn takes off!
There are important moments in a pilot’s life: the first flight, the first thermal, the first outlanding… we can wait a little longer for that one.
But above all, there’s the first solo flight.
After hours of training, circuit flights, advice, a few “pull back a little,” a few “push forward a little,” and probably a few “watch your speed!,” the big moment had arrived for Melvyn: the instructor stepped out of the glider.
And Melvyn took off.
Alone on board, with the glider suddenly climbing much better and a strangely quiet back seat, he completed his first solo flight and thus joined the big family of solo pilots.
Way to go, Melvyn!
A wonderful milestone achieved… and certainly not the last.
